RIESEL CEMETERY HISTORY

Riesel Cemetery is located on Texas State Highway 6, within the City Limits of Riesel, Tx.  It is said to have been started when Mose King donated two acres of land at the site.  The first burial in this cemetery was for M.C. Wanda Flowers, age 8 months, who died May 6, 1900.  Mr William Punchard, who was born in New Hampshire in 1813,  died Feb. 27, 1878, and was originally buried in a private field near the T.P. and L. Reservoir.  When the T.P. & L. lake was planned, Mr. Punchard’s remains were moved to Riesel Cemetery.  The cemetery association bought one strip of land from Alfred Meier and two strips from Tom Lehrman.  The cemetery now has 7 ½ acres of land. The cemetery has ten gates and seven blocks.  Block I is at the north end of the cemetery.  In copying the tombstone data, the starting point was at the northwest corner of Block I, working north to south and south to north in the rows of tombstones.  The front gate is on Highway 6, between Block II and Block III, erected 1965. The Riesel Cemetery Association Directors at the time of the gate construction, 1965:
